Dark Filaments on the Sun
Active Regions (AR) 1665 & 1667, shown above, revealed some beautiful dark filaments around the time of a recent solar flare. A class C9 eruption occurred in AR1667 on February 6, 2013 (watch it here). This level of flare is nothing to worry about even if it was aimed at us and this one wasn’t. However, it could provide a glancing blow to Earth’s magnetic field around February 9-10, 2013 producing some aurora.
